📚 Understanding Your Results

What is BMI?

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a screening tool used by medical professionals to estimate body fat based on height and weight. While useful for populations, it doesn't distinguish between muscle and fat mass.

Why Body Fat % Matters

The US Navy Body Fat method uses circumference measurements to provide a more accurate picture of your composition than BMI alone, especially for athletes with high muscle mass.

BMR vs. TDEE

BMR is the calories your body burns just staying alive (coma calories). TDEE adds your daily activity. To lose weight, eat below your TDEE; to gain, eat above it.

Child & Teen BMI

For ages 2-19, BMI is plotted on CDC growth charts to determine a percentile. A healthy BMI for a child depends on their age and gender relative to other children.
